With only 6 weeks to go we thought we should give you some important and exciting updates, so spread the word and get your tango friends excited ....
IMPORTANT: Immersion UpdateCecilia and Somer Gustavo and Gisela Space for one more couple and two more leads - then registrations close. Fabio and Ana Space for a few more couples - but filling fast as usual - they are such great teachers and perfect for those starting their tango careers. Alicia Pons **Attention all milongueros** Last year Alicia did not make it to the festival as she was stuck in Chile under a rather large and very foreboding ash cloud so we decided to bring her again so you could finally get your Alicia fix! We are very excited to be hosting her. As a teacher, Alicia emphasizes the partners’ connection, and in particular the woman’s ability to not just follow, but to be an equal protagonist in the dance. Alicia was trained in classical dance from an early age and as a young woman performed in some of Buenos Aires’ most well known theatres, the Colon, the Coliseo, and the Alvear. Alicia’s teaching methods are grounded in her academic training. She holds a degree in Educational Science and Psychology, and she is currently an instructor for university level education students, in addition to her teaching, being a mother of two sons, and running her family real estate business. She is a very warm and caring person who loves to share her knowledge. If you really feel like a milonguero challenge - immerse with Alica! We urge you to make the most of this fantastic opportunity. Remember she has an immersion before and after the festival. Click here to read about what Alicia will be covering in her course. Spaces left for leads and follows. Aussie Dancers Special (till 15 May) Also, check out and subscribe to grabaseat for alerts on very cheap flights between Australia and New Zelaland. Quality and Comfort Hotels Any old glamour will do! This is the simple yet elegant theme for your grand milonga on the Saturday night. We are thinking diamonds, tuxes, chignons, pearls, foxes or fakes. You choose - just look fabulous darling!
Look forward to exciting updates about, the Cultural Day, Wallflower Team, Videographer and Photographer, guest DJs and more... it is going to be an awesome festival! |

From Ian Fyfe: BUENOS AIRES IN THE VALES Tango FestivalApril 20-22, 2012 - McLaren Vale, South Australia - Beautiful Milongas, Tango Shows, Live Music, Workshops, Regional Food, Wine & Community Events celebrating Tango. Featuring international guests Francisco Forquera & Carolina Bonaventura & an Australian Tango Faculty. Dear Milongueando Friends,
Milongueando in Buenos Aires: 8-14 August 2011
In a recent article, Susana Miller cites one of the essential reasons for a festival such as Milongueando: the importance of learning tango in contact with veteran milongueros, an opportunity that is gradually being lost as members of the older generation are leaving us. This is why Milongueando is so important for those who want to learn this style. Says Susana:
"Argentines learn the subtleties of the tango in the milonga, dancing with older milonguero(a)s, observing them and learning from them. It is an inheritance transmitted from one generation to the other.
Without veteran dancers, there is no community, there are just beginners dancing in a wheel that’s spinning and going nowhere. The most mature dancers are a spearhead; they stimulate us and serve as an example to those who are beginning. In other countries, this possibility of spontaneous transmission doesn’t exist; it has to be generated “in vitro.” If tango communities grow it’s because they have a maestro to teach them the fundamental elements of music and of floor space related to social dance. These dancers then become experienced in their own right, which is what every community needs. Because most dancers want to dance in the milonga and for this they need to study the entrails of this dance and not just be satisfied with its outward appearance.
Traditionally the milonga was a party to which everyone was invited. It was not a place to remain seated and watch a movie you weren’t in. Nor was it a place to fight for a space that is not negotiable or to leave with scratches and bruises. The milonga is a party for everybody; it needs a space that no one has the right to challenge, not even for artistic ends."
