The very first New Zealand tango festival was held at The Chateau Tongariro, ten years ago. 95 tango enthusiasts from all over New Zealand came and danced under the huge chandelier in the grand dining room, many of us experiencing more than 20 people on a dance floor for the very first time... times have changed!

As part of the celebration of our tenth year we are going to revisit this stunning venue, nestled in to the side of Mount Ruapehu and overlooking some of New Zealand's most beautiful scenery.

Tango festival now spans over ten full days with immersion courses on each end of the festival and local Milongas to fill the evenings It's only a matter of time before Cuba Street is renamed Little Buenos Aires...

All of the festival evening events are now located down town, a short walk from the festival Hotel. The Thursday warm up milonga is now combined with the welcome dinner and is at the wonderful Jimmy Cafe, the foyer of the prestigious Saint James Theatre on Courtenay Place. The evening will start at 7:30 with an optional A La Carte Menu, dancing starts from 8:30 pm. 
Meet the international guests and people from all over New Zealand and Australia, this evening will be all about mixing it up with other particpants and making everyone feel welcome. Free to Pass Holders, $30.00 non passholders (dinner not included) Book on the events section of the registration page.

Free Total beginners course

Once again we are offering the very popular free six workshop course for absolute beginners. The course will run during the tango festival programme over three days and will be taught by the illustrious Wellington Tango teachers. To apply for the course, email us with your name/s and contact details and we will send you the course information. Please forward this information to friends or groups who might like to particpate, especially to any men who might want to learn, we endeavor to keep the numbers even, and hey, we all know a few guys who need to learn to dance!

The New Zealand Tango Festival. 24th - 27th June 2010

The New Zealand Tango Festival includes 50 workshops over three days, and three nights of dancing and performance. The workshops are all under one roof in a professional dance school with a central social area, tango related stalls, cafe and festival info. The two main milongas are held in the beautiful WellingtonTown Hall.

General registration for the festival opens in February 2010. Currently the website is showing 2009 information and will be updated in February, prior to that, any updates and information on the festival are announced via this newsletter, please email us if you would like to join.

To make the most of the international teachers coming to the festival, we also offer four intensive three-day courses, which can be booked in addition to your  festival pass and run before and after the event.
